Build 300km Of Ho Chi Minh Highway In 2005
Xin lỗi, thông tin bằng Tiếng Anh.
INFRASTRUCTURE: VIETNAM TO BUILD 300KM OF HO CHI MINH HIGHWAY IN 2005
Vietnam plans to build an additional 300 kilometers for the Ho Chi Minh Highway this year, said Pham Hong Son, head of the second transnational road project's Management Unit.
The construction will include 59 km for Bac Bo-Cao Bang route, 175 km for Cam Lo-Tuy Loan route, 15.3 km for Gia Nghia road, 4.5 km for Phong Nha-Ke Bang route, 13 km for Hoa Lac-Xuan Mai route, 22 km for Tan Canh-Ngoc Hoi route, and a 7.2km road section linking the expressway to Hai Thuong Lan Ong memorial.
The Ho Chi Minh highway has been built since 2000 and its 1,212 kilometers road section from Quang Thach in northern Thanh Hoa province to Ngoc Hoi in the central highlands province of Kon Tum is now open to traffic, Son said.
He added that a total of 41 large and 209 medium bridges along the road had also been put in use.
The Ho Chi Minh highway is the largest transport infrastructure construction project in Vietnam with a total investment capital of nearly VND8,000 billion ($ 509.6 million).
Upon completion in 2010, the highway will run parallel to the existing National Highway No. 1. Its construction is crucial to the development of remote areas and is expected to help narrow the socio-economic gap between rural and urban regions.
In related news, the government has recently drafted a plan to invest some VND119,902 billion ($ 7.6 billion) on industrial development in 16 provinces along the road for the 2004-2010 period.
The industrial development along the highway will focus on hydro power, farm produce processing, mining and mineral processing, and construction materials production.
A number of large projects will be conducted, including the Dac Nong bauxite-aluminum complex, major cement plants in Ha Tay, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, and Binh Phuoc provinces.
