VTC may get World Cup yet
After FPT signed a contract selling broadcasting rights for World Cup 2006 to Vietnam Television (VTV) and HCM City Television (HTV), VTC asked for rights as well. VTV and HTV supported VTC’s bid and only costs remain.
According to an official from VTC, FPT has agreed to sell the broadcasting rights to VTC while VTV and HTV accept a shared arrangement. “We are still negotiating the price with FPT but it is sure that VTC will pay by cash, not by advertising spots, like VTV and HTV We will not disclose the payment but I confirm that it will be lower than HTV’s payment because VTC is a young organisation,” he said.
However, Deputy Director of FPT Media, Tran Viet Tuan, emphasised: “We have not agreed to sell the broadcasting rights for VTC yet. We have just considered it because there are many related issues.”
FPT Deputy General Director Hoang Minh Chau said that FPT is ready to represent VTV and HTV to negotiate with other TV stations on sales of World Cup broadcast rights. “When a solution is found, other TV stations will also have a chance to share the rights,” he said.
Binh Duong Television (BTV) has also recently voiced their wish to buy broadcasting rights.
